Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, Department of Biology, New York University, published an article “Filthy lucre: A metagenomic pilot study of microbes found on circulating currency in New York City” where a total of 397 bacterial species representing more than 20 bacterial phyla were identified across aggregate banknote samples obtained from various location in New York City. The study stated that “paper currency by its very nature is frequently transferred from one person to another and represents an important medium for human contact with and potential exchange of microbes.”

01. Our Patented Method of Disinfecting U.S. Currency Bills
AMROTEC’s MIB-11UVC and MIB-9UVC models are equipped with our proprietary disinfection system [U.S. Patent #11,321,988], featuring multi-strip arrays of 45–60 “germicidal” UV-C LEDs. These LEDs are installed at the end of the bill conveyor mechanism—completely invisible to the operator—and automatically emit downward UV-C rays onto passing banknotes, disinfecting them in real time.

02. Laboratory-Tested Efficacy in Killing Live Bacteria
Banknotes are irradiated by UV-C rays during processing, achieving 84%–94% disinfection efficacy depending on model and bacterial strain. This result was confirmed in March 2023 by independent laboratory testing in Texas, using a two-pass method that treats both sides of the same stack of currency.

03. Multi-Purpose Functionality: Disinfecting + Processing
In addition to disinfecting U.S. banknotes, both models perform full currency processing functions—including MIX, SINGLE, SORT, FACE, ORIENT, and COUNT modes. Batching and strapping options allow grouping by preset quantity or specific dollar amount, applicable to single or all denominations.

04. High-Speed Performance with Optimized Disinfection Rate
MIB-9UVC and MIB-11UVC process and denominate currency at speeds up to 1,200 notes per minute. For optimal disinfection, throughput is calibrated to 800 notes per minute—ensuring maximum exposure to UV-C rays without compromising counting accuracy.
